![]() You can try to get these as you go along but it may be worth leaving them for now. downing planes on the Blackcats mission). Also, be aware that each level has a specific task associated with it (i.e. This is not vital but it will help keep the number of replays to a minimum. Before you begin make sure you have a list of all the Death Card locations (or see the videos on the forum) so that you can find them as you go along. In retrospect, the Call of Duty series is all about the experience of being a grunt in the thick of it, so infantry combat is definitely where it shines. There is no point completing the game on any other setting so it is best to start on Veteran difficulty. If you put all those tanks and infantry in a small space it's just going to be pure chaos. (And even Battlefield can have this problem, as airpower is totally unbalanced in some games.) Meanwhile, you really need a Battlefield-size level for vehicles to work really well. Unless you're really willing to go all out for a Battlefield-style fracas where every unit has a direct counter, you're going to have an issue. Sure, World at War gives you bazookas and such, but you still die a lot trying to kill a tank, particularly if the other team is smart and coordinating tank and infantry together. Jason: The problem with vehicles in multiplayer is that it's tough to keep them balanced. I think that balance makes it more enjoyable, which should make this map pack a great value for CoD fans, especially those who want to test their skills on a more-or-less level playing field. These maps don't put you in those situations, leaving the players to move around more with strategy and aiming precision in mind than brute force. I know that with every corner I turn I'm holding my breath, fingers tensed and ready to pull the trigger at the slightest hint of movement.Īndy:You guys are right, that most people don't want to be the second one to a tank or round the corner of a building to find themselves needing to dive away to avoid the splash damage from a tank round. It's a style of gameplay that's so intense it can be physically draining. Maps like Corrosion show me that the strength of this engine, even after Treyarch's considerable tinkering, remains the infantry combat. Lots of times it just feels like a footrace to the tanks, and you end up feeling unprepared if you didn't happen to bring along tank-killing gear. I personally enjoy hopping into a tank here and there, mostly because I can often pad my kill totals with them, but they did feel somewhat simple when compared to the tanks you can find in more dedicated military sims. World at War differentiated itself from Modern Warfare by introducing vehicular combat in the form of tanks, but from what we've been told the player base seems to gravitate towards infantry combat. Gerald: That's an interesting point you bring up, Jason. ![]() This ruined facility offers many different avenues for attack, so watch your back. This map pack is very nice if you don't want to worry about a tank coming up to ruin your day. ![]() And like the other two maps it's infantry-only. The other two are Imperial Japanese versus U.S. It should be noted that this is the only map of the three "conventional" maps in the DLC that is German versus Russian. And yes, there was definitely camping going on (I'm looking at you, Andy). ![]() During the capture-the-flag session, the industrial nature of the setting offered lots of places to camp and wait for your prey. This map felt very cat-and-mouse I felt I was always chasing someone who was constantly turning the corner on me. All those giant pipes that you can crawl through, all those openings in the pipes that let you shoot at those outside (and, in turn, get shot at). Jason: Corrosion strikes me like some kind of weird, industrial water park. Of course, it didn't help that the members from both teams were all in the same room, so when Gerald started yelling false information to misdirect the other team to where he was holding the flag it added another layer of entertainment to the already crazy chase. That match went on for a long time with lots of places for the flag carrier to stay out of easy view of the other team, but plenty of little gunfights breaking out as opponents encountered each other. It seemed that at any given time both teams had the other's flag and were alternately sweeping for the other team's flag carrier. Andy: Yes, I was struck by the multiple levels - as well as the various tunnels and corridors winding through the buildings - and how they made the CTF match we played first a real cat-and-mouse game.
